PS3 And Wii Kiosk Photo Leaked

"Sirpilf" on the official Nintendo forums has posted what look like legit photos of the PS3 and Wii kiosks that we'll all see in the local mall or wherever else. Sirpilf says: "...not even gamestop employees have seen this yet, but they will in about a week when they get it. anyways it says stores wont receive the demo units till late October to early November." So are they fake photos? Hard to say, but who cares, they're purrtty.

Can the PS3 Save Sony

The company that created the transistor radio and the Walkman is at the precipice. If Sony's new $600 console doesn't blow gamers away, it may be time to say sayonara.

Never try to introduce the same product twice. That was the lesson from the Electronic Entertainment Expo in May. A year earlier, at E3 2005 in Los Angeles, Sony had wowed the videogame industry with demonstrations of the upcoming PlayStation 3's unprecedented graphical muscle. The machine wouldn't be available until months after Microsoft's next-gen console, the Xbox 360. Yet based on the spectacular preview, many gamers had no problem waiting for the PS3. Then, early this year, Sony dropped a bombshell: The PS3 release would be pushed back until November. So when E3 came around again this spring, everyone trooped out to the retro Hollywood lotusland of the Sony Pictures lot ? only to view the same console they'd been promised the year before. Not great.

PS3 Price Going To Destroy Sony

After being asked if the PlayStation 3 price would impact their decision to purchase one this fall, Jerry responded, "We've already talked about it, there's no chance we're buying a PS3 at launch. That's grade-A bullshit."

The crowd erupted in applause, and bathed in their communal disdain for Sony's steep price point. The Penny Arcade guys continued explaining that their choice for next-gen gaming this fall will be the Wii60 combo platter. Of course, this echoes the sort of response we've seen both on Joystiq and the blogosphere as a whole. Maybe that's why Sony is the only one of "the big three" without a presence at PAX.

Sony expects higher $59 to $99 price points for PS3 games

SCEA president Kaz Hirai isn?t promising a $59.99 price tag for PS3 games this fall. In an interview with PlayStation Magazine, the Sony leader explained: So, what I can say now is, I think it would be a bit of a stretch to think that we could suddenly turn around and say ?PS3 games now $99.99? I don?t think the consumers expect the software pricing to suddenly be double,? he told the magazine. ?So, if it becomes a bit higher than fifty-nine bucks don?t ding me, but, again, as I said, I don?t expect it to be a hundred bucks.?

In other words, consumers should expect PS3 games to cost somewhere between $59.99 and $99.99. He doesn?t expect them to be a hundred dollars, but it?s only a ?stretch? to expect it. And here we thought going from current generation to Xbox 360 was bad seeing prices respectively rise from $49.99 to $59.99. Looks like it?s back to the SNES/N64 prices.

10,000 PS3 Dev Kits Shipped, Developers 'Underwhelmed'

In a blog post, former SCEA Third-Party Developer Relations manager, Mark DeLoura announced that he was making the move to French-based publisher Ubisoft. In Sony's confirmation to the departure of DeLoura, SCEA PR manager, Brian Bowling let slip the numbers of PlayStation 3 development kits that the company has delivered in order to reiterate the company's commitment to third party developers.

He also offered the latest PS3 dev kit shipment figures, in an effort to exhibit Sony's commitment to developers. "To date we have shipped more than 10,000 development systems to 208 companies in 11 countries, the largest number ever for a PlayStation platform."

In a seperate - yet related - story, an informal poll of game developers conducted by Game Informer magazine revealed that 60% of developers that have received PlayStation 3 development rate the kits as being average, highlighting the difficulties of developing for the platform.
